Pyran

Pyran which is also known as oxine with molecular formula is C5H6O.It’s a heterocyclic compound has six-membered ring with non-aromatic in nature. It consists of five carbon and one oxygen atoms and containing two double bonds. Pyran has two isomers of has double bonds with different positions. In 2H-pyran, the carbon is at 2nd position whereas, in 4H-pyran is at 4th position which is easily soluble in aqueous solution.

4H-Pyran is unstable compound, particularly in the presence of air. But many of their derivatives have biological importance as pyranoflavonoids. The term pyran is also often applied to the saturated ring analog. Pyranoses has six-membered ring and it’s a monosaccharaide.

Journal of Heterocyclics is the branch of chemistry dealing with the synthesis, properties and applications of heterocyclic compounds. A heterocyclic compound is a cyclic compound that has atoms of at least two different elements as members of its ring(s). Compounds classified as heterocyclic probably constitute the largest and most varied family of organic compounds.
