Cytokine therapy

Cytokine therapy:  Cytokines are proteins produced by tumor cells and can modulate immune responses. The tumor allows them to grow and reduce the immune response. These immune-modulating effects allow them to be used as drugs to provoke an immune response. Two commonly used cytokines are interferons and interleukins.

Interleukin-2 and interferon-α are cytokines, proteins that regulate and coordinate the behavior of the immune system. They have the ability to enhance anti-tumor activity and thus can be used as passive cancer treatments. Interferon-α is used in the treatment of hairy-cell leukaemia, AIDS-related Kaposis sarcoma, follicular lymphoma, chronic myeloid leukaemia and malignant melanoma. Interleukin-2 is used in the treatment of malignant melanoma and renal cell carcinoma.

Edelweiss: Cancer Open Access is an open access journal which aims to publish most complete and genuine source of information in the form of short commentary, mini review, case report, related, but not limited to above areas and making them available freely through online without any subscriptions and restrictions to researches worldwide
