Maxillofacial surgery works in treating numerous ailments, wounds and deformities in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and delicate tissues of the oral (mouth) and maxillofacial (jaws and face) locale. It is a globally recognized surgical specialty.
Maxillofacial (jaws and face) region diagnosis of diseases or defects or injury, treatment, surgery comes under maxillofacial surgery study. It can be functional or repair of hard or soft tissues in these regions. One who performs surgery to facial regions is known as maxillofacial surgeons. He performs operations like removal of impacted teeth which can lead to relief from trauma.
Few of the functions/operations conducted by Maxillofacial Surgeons, replacing of teeth with implants inserted in its place. These operations are performed under the supervision of anaesthesia. Removal of tumor, cyst from jaw or oral and reconstruct them to make it look normal.
Align patients jaw using orthogonal surgery, jaw joints are repaired who are suffering with TMJ, this is done by TMJ surgery.
