Pulpitis

Pulpitis is irritation or inflammation of dental pulp tissue. The pulp contains the blood vessels the nerves and connective tissue inside a tooth and provides blood and supplements. Pulpitis is principally caused by bacteria infection which itself is a secondary development of caries (tooth decay). It manifests itself in the form of a toothache.

Pulpitis might be caused by dental caries that enter through the enamel and dentin to reach the pulp, or it might be result of injury, for example, physical abuse of the tooth or thermal insults, including overheating from insufficiently cooled dental drills and use of dental curing lights. More often it is from physical trauma rather than dental treatments. Signs and symptoms of pulpitis include increased sensitivity to stimuli, particularly hot and cool, is a common indication of pulpitis, prolonged throbbing pain. However, pulpitis can also occur without any pain.
