Hypodontia

The developmental absence of one or more teeth except the third molars, which can affect both the primary and permanent dentition, is termed as Hypodontia. It is the most common developmental dental abnormality and can be challenging to manage clinically. The term hypodontia is used to describe the whole range of the disorder from one missing tooth to the complete absence of all teeth, anodontia. Severe hypodontia is a developmental or congenital condition characterized by absence of 6 or more teeth. Individuals with hypodontia often exhibit other dental abnormalities such as microdontia, impaction of permanent canines, transposition, delayed eruption, Ectopic canines and conical shaped teeth.
