Resistin

Resistin also known as adipose tissue-specific secretory factor, Resistin hormone has been identified that links obesity to type 2 diabetes and is encoded by the RETN gene. It is first identified in mice, it has also been found in humans.

Type 2 diabetes has long been observed to be associated with obesity. Insulin resistance is the hallmark of type 2 diabetes and is manifested all over the body.

Circulating resistin levels are decreased by the anti-diabetic drug rosiglitazone, and increased in diet-induced and genetic forms of obesity. Administration of anti-resistin antibody improves blood sugar and insulin action in mice with diet-induced obesity.
