Polydipsia

Polydipsia is a medical term which refers to the excessive thirst or excess drinking. Polydipsia is a nonspecific symptom in various medical disorders. This symptom is characteristically found in diabetics, as one of the earliest symptoms of diabetes. It is especially common in diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus causes polydipsia because person blood sugar levels gets too high and make feel thirsty, regardless of how much water the person drinks. Diabetes insipidus occurs when our body fluid levels are out of balance. Even though person may drink a lot of water but still may feel an urgent need to drink more fluids.

The common symptoms of polydipsia include:

·         Passing abnormally high amounts of urine (more than 5 liters a day).

·         A persistent feeling of dryness in the mouth.
