Rheumatoid vasculitis

Inflammation in blood vessels is known as vacuities which lead to changes in the blood vessel walls, including thickening, weakening, narrowing or scarring, due to these changes blood flow will be restricted and organ, tissue damage may occur. There are several types of vasculitis like behcets disease, buergers disease (thromboangiitis obliterans), Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis (EPGA, Churg Strauss), Cryoglobulinemia, Giant Cell Arteritis, Henoch-Schönlein Purpura, Microscopic Polyangiitis, Polyarteritis Nodosa, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, Takayasus Arteritis, Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis (GPA,Wegeners).

Depending upon the severity of the illness and the organs involved treatment will be different. Stopping of inflammation and suppressing the immune system are the basic treatments for rheumatoid vacuities.
Corticosteroid drugs like prednisone, methylprednisolone (Medrol) are used to control inflammation but it may cause side effects weight gain, diabetes and bone thinning (osteoporosis). Rituximab (Rituxan) or tocilizumab (Actemra) are recommended, depending on the type of vasculitis. Surgical treatment is used for the blocked arteries.
