Septic arthritis

Infectious agents attack on joints resulting in joint inflammation is known as joint infection or infectious arthritis or septic arthritis. Acute bacterial arthritis in adults and in children older than 2 years is due to infection of staphylococcus aureus and neisseria gonorrhoeae pathogen infection among younger sexually active individuals are common causes of septic arthritis.

Chills, fatigue and generalized weakness, fever, inability to move the limb with the infected joint, severe pain in the affected joint, especially with movement, swelling (increased fluid within the joint), warmth (the joint is red and warm to touch because of increased blood flow) are some symptoms of septic arthritis. Antibiotic therapy, synovial - drainage of the infected joint and arthrocentesis - fluids from the joint are used in the treatment of this disease.
