Spinal Cancer

An abnormal mass of tissue within or surrounding the spinal cord spinal cord or the bones, tissues, fluid or nerves that comprise it, forming a tumor is known as Spinal Cancer. A spinal cord tumor is also called as an intradural tumor, which begins within or covering of the spinal cord. A tumor affects the bones of the vertebrae (Spine) is called as vertebral tumor. They can be benign or malignant.

The symptoms of spinal cancer depend on several factors, including the tumor type, size, location, as well as age and health history of the patient. Pain, numbness, weakness and difficulty with urination are some of the common spinal cancer symptoms.

Types of the Spinal Cancers are:

·         Astrocytoma

·         Chordoma

·         Ependymoma

·         Glioma

·         Meningioma

·         Neurofibroma

·         Schwannoma

Treatments for spinal cancer vary based on factors such as the location and extent of the disease. Surgical options may include minimally invasive and more aggressive approaches.
