Psychiatric Epidemiology
The Psychiatric Epidemiology covers different fields such as, focused on substance abuse, geriatric mental health, child mental health, suicide prevention and maternal mental health. Emphasis is given to issues of reliability and validity in studying such disorders among children, adolescents, and adults. Concepts and methods for studying the genetic and psychosocial factors that relate to the prevalence, incidence, and outcome of different types of psychiatric illnesses. Many different instruments are used to assess mental disorders in epidemiological studies depending on the age of the participants, available recourses and other considerations. Studies featuring adolescents and adults often use structured interviewing, a technique in which a series of questions is administered by interviewers to determine whether an individual is disordered or non-disordered.
