Mouth Ulcers
Mouth ulcers are also known as oral ulcers, aphthous ulcers, or canker sores. They are normally small, painful lesions that develop in your mouth or at the base of your gums or inside the cheeks or lips, but can also form in the floor of the mouth or on the tongue. Mouth ulcers are breaks in the moist inside surfaces (mucosal membrane) of the mouth. Nerves are close to the surface in the mouth, so any break in the membrane exposes them which can be painful, annoying and sometimes embarrassing, interfering with eating, drinking, brushing and even talking. They are also very common and usually red or yellow in color. Most mouth ulcers require no treatment and heal on their own within one to two weeks.
