Anydental work that improves the appearance (though not necessarily the functionality) of teeth, gums and/or bite is called Cosmetic Dentistry. The main aim for cosmetic dentistry is improvement of dental aesthetics like color, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance.The dentist who perform this process known as cosmetic dentists regardless of their specific education, specialty, training, and experience in this field. This has been considered unethical with a predominant objective of marketing to patients.
Cosmetic dentistry may include: The
addition of a dental material to teeth or gums – models: holding, porcelain
facade (covers), crowns (tops), gum unites.
The expulsion of tooth structure or gums – models: enameloplasty, gingivectomy.
Neither including nor expelling dental materials,
tooth structure, or gums – models: teeth brightening (bleaching), laser
brightening, gum depigmentation.
Rectifying of teeth joined by enhancement in appearance of face – orthodontics
