Geriatric dentistry
Geriatric dentistry, or Geriodontics, is the delivery of dental consideration to older adults including the analysis, avoidance, and treatment of issues related with normal aging and age-related diseases as a major aspect of an interdisciplinary group with other health care professionals.
In the elderly population poor oral health has been viewed as a hazard factor for general medical issues. Older adults are more prone to oral conditions or infections because of an increase in chronic conditions and physical/mental inabilities. Hence, the elderly form a distinct group in terms of provision of care.
