Thyroglobulin
Thyroglobulin is the precursor of thyroid hormone. Similarly, patients with thyroid inflammation can have very high levels of thyroglobulin. Since thyroglobulin is normally only made by thyroid cells, it serves a as tumor marker in thyroid cancer patients. Tyrosine residues are combined with iodine and the protein is subsequently cleaved. Thyroglobulin (Tg) is a dimeric protein produced by the follicular cells of the thyroid Thyroglobulin protein accounts for approximately half of the protein content of the thyroid gland. Human Thyroglobulin (HTG) is a homodimer of subunits each containing 2768 amino acids as synthesized.
