Polymyalgia rheumatic

A disorder due to pain and stiffness affecting both sides of the body in muscles and joints of older person’s shoulders, arms, neck, and buttock areas is called as Polymyalgia Rheumatic (PMR). Unusual or persistent headaches, Jaw pain or tenderness, Blurred or double vision or visual loss, Scalp tenderness are some symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatic.

Low dose of an oral corticosteroid, such as prednisone is used for the treatment of Polymyalgia rheumatic. Depending on symptoms and the results of blood tests the dosage of drug is gradually decreased because usage of higher or taper off the doses of corticosteroids may lead to a relapse of Polymyalgia rheumatic. Weight gain, Loss of bone density and weakening of bones (osteoporosis), High blood pressure (hypertension), Diabetes, Clouding of the lenses of your eyes (cataracts) are some side effects caused by the long term usage of corticosteroids. Side effects can be managed by healthy diet, regularexercise, and rest after exercise and activities of daily living, usage of assistive devices like luggage and grocery carts, reaching aids, shower grab bars to make daily tasks easier.
