Adjustment disorders

Adjustment disorder is a short term condition that occurs when a person has great difficulty coping with, or adjusting to, a particular source of stress, such as a major life change, loss, or event. It is also known as stress response syndrome. Types of adjustment disorders are Adjustment disorder with anxiety, Adjustment disorder with depressed mood, Adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood, Adjustment disorder with disturbance of conduct, Adjustment disorder with mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct, Unspecified adjustment disorder. Treatment may include individual psychotherapy using cognitive-behavioral approaches, family therapy, peer group therapy, medication. The mental and physical symptoms of adjustment disorders can include:

• anxiousness
• feelings of sadness, hopelessness
• withdrawn attitude
• loss of self-esteem and concentration
• suicidal thoughts

• insomnia and fatigue
• body pain or soreness
