Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is an organic compound with the molecular formula (CH2)4O. It is a clear colorless liquid with an ethereal odor, less dense than water and vapors are heavier than air. The compound is classified as heterocyclic compound, with cyclic ether that is butane in which one hydrogen from each methyl group is substituted by one oxygen. It has a role as a polar aprotic solvent. It is mainly used as a precursor to polymers, surface coating, adhesives, film casting, printing, inks.
