Heterocyclics Chemistry
The branch of organic chemistry dealing with the synthesis, properties, and applications of the heterocycles is called Heterocyclic chemistry. A heterocyclic compound or ring structure is a cyclic compound that has atoms of at least two different elements as members of its rings. Nucleic acids, the majority of drugs, most biomass and many natural and synthetic dyes are the examples of heterocyclic compounds. Heterocyclic chemical compounds may be inorganic compounds or organic compounds, most contain at least one carbon. Heterocyclic compounds can be usefully classified based on their electronic structure. The saturated heterocycles behave like the acyclic derivatives.
