Western blot test
The western blot test (at times called the protein immune blot) is a generally utilized in molecular biology, immune genetics and other molecular biology disciplines to distinguish particular proteins in a sample of tissue homogenate or concentrate. In short, the sample experiences protein denaturation, followed by gel electrophoresis. A synthetic or animal-derived antibody (known as the Primary antibody) is made that recognizes and binds to a particular target protein. The electrophoresis film is washed in a solution containing the primary antibody, before excess antibody is washed off. A secondary antibody is added which recognizes and binds to the primary antibody. The secondary antibody is visualized through different techniques for example staining, immunofluorescence, and radioactivity, allowing indirect detection of the particular target protein. Other related systems incorporate spot smear investigation, quantitative speck blotch, immunohistochemistry, and immunocytochemistry where antibodies are utilized to identify proteins in tissues and cells by immune staining, and Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)
