Dietary Supplements
Dietary
supplements contain one or more of
the dietary ingredients such as mineral, vitamin, herbs, amino acids and other
botanical ingredients. They are available in the form of tablets, capsules,
gummies, energy bars and drinks. A dietary supplement helps to balance the
daily requirement of nutrients if not completely available by food. Some of the
dietary supplements are meant to manage health
conditions and overall health. Such as calcium and vitamin D to maintain bone health
in women and omega-3 fatty
acids for heart health. The dietary
supplements come with label which lists all the active ingredients and other
ingredients amount per serving.
Excessive
intakes of these dietary supplements are not recommended as they also have
several side effects. For example Vitamin K supplement reduces the effect of
Coumadin drug. Vitamin
C and E (anti-oxidant supplements) might
reduce the effect of some type of chemotherapy treatment.
