Language barrier for community pharmacist, Source: Four ways Pharmacists Can Improve Patient Counseling Skills

Language barrier for community pharmacist play an important role in increasing patient understanding of medication use. Lack of resources to facilitate communication with non-English speaking patients may be a communication barrier. Being unable to communicate with patients in their own language can cause serious problems. These can include patients misunderstanding the advice or instructions for how to use their medicines. There is a lot at stake; including poor adherence and a risk to the patients safety. One of the biggest issues with language barriers is that its impossible to find out how many of your patients are making mistakes with their medication. This can be overcome by improving the translation quality of medication labels and inserts, improving prescription translation software and increasing the distribution of multilingual materials, patients need to be informed about language services that are available. If there is no bilingual staff person available, an interpreter during clinical visits can ensure that these patients get all the important information they need in their native language. Journal of Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology. Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology is a scholarly journal maintaining high standards of Pharmacoepidemiology Researches.
