The study of the determinants and effects of clinical decisions is called Clinical epidemiology. Clinical Epidemiology is an implementation science that focuses on health outcomes and health extremes. It is sometimes referred to as "the basic science of clinical medicine".

The practice of clinical epidemiology aims to address this through the application of established approaches for research in human populations. While at all times focusing on the problem at hand from a clinical perspective. Clinical Epidemiology also focuses on the application of epidemiological principles and questions relating to patients and clinical care in terms of prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.
