Cervical cytology is also known as cervical screening or Liquid Based Cytology test (LBC). A test which is used to detect the abnormal tissues or cells in the uterine cervix is called as cervical screening. It is also used to test Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infections. Cervical screening helps to r remove abnormal tissue or cells in the cervix before cervical cancer develops.
It is a standard screening test for cervical cancer and premalignant cervical lesions. Liquid-based, thin-layer preparation of cervical cytology specimens is a subsequent modification in cervical screening technique. HPV DNA testing and the visual inspection are the screening methods used in low-resource areas of the developing countries.
