Animal genetics is a branch of genetics that studies heredity and variations in animals (farm animals, and also in domestic and wild animals) or the passing of traits from one generation to the next. It involves studies of gene expression, genetic variability, genetic testing, color genetics and animal breeding and correlations between genotype and phenotype. Research is continuing on the correlation between these genes, on the one hand, and productivity, fertility, and viability of animals, on the other.
