As adenine, guanine, and thymine Cytosine is also one of the bases found in DNA and RNA. It’s a fundamental unit for nucleic acids formation and the derivative of pyrimidine. It consists of a heterocyclic aromatic ring with a molecular formula C4H5N3O.
It has two substituents attached the nucleoside of cytosine is called cytidine. In Watson-Crick base pairing it form three hydrogen bonds with guanine. It acts as a metabolite in human, bacteria and mouse. Cytosine is paired with guanine in DNA and RNA but its unstable and easily changes into uracil. Deamination in cytosine causes mutagen in nucleotide which leads to leukemia and cancer.
