Diabetic ketoacidosis is a life-threatening complication of type 1 diabetes. Its less common in people with type 2 diabetes because insulin levels however it can occur when the body starts breaking down fat too fast. The liver processes the fat into a fuel called ketones, which causes the blood to become acidic. DKA only happens when you dont have enough insulin in your body to process high levels of glucose in the blood.
