Lupus
is an autoimmune disease. This is caused by immune system when it attacks its
own tissue like joints,
skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs. Immune
system helps in protecting the body from infections but
patients with Lupus disease go through inappropriate immune
system attacks
on tissues in various parts of the body.
Achy joints
(arthralgia), unexplained fever (more than 100 F), Swollen joints (arthritis), Prolonged
or extreme fatigue, Skin rash, Ankle swelling and fluid accumulation, Pain in
the chest when breathing deeply (pleurisy), A butterfly-shaped rash across the
cheeks and nose and hair loss are some symptoms of lupus. Corticosteroids, Antimalarial
drugs, BLyS-specific, inhibitors, Immunosuppressive
agents/chemotherapy
are used to cure Lupus.
