Pain in ankle due to injury, sprain and arthritis is called as ankle pain. Injury or tear to the ligaments which holds the bones and joints of foot and ankle together due to sudden twist or turn of ankle lead to Ankle Sprain. Stiffness, tender, warm, and swelling in the ankle are some symptoms of ankle pain. Ibuprofen, naproxen sodium and acetaminophen are used for the treatment of ankle pain.
Depending upon necessity some surgical methods are used for the treatment of ankle pain they are fracture repair, ankle arthroscopy, ankle fusion, ankle replacement and ankle distraction arthroplasty.
Ø In fracture repair temporary metal plates are used for the treatment of damaged ankle bones
Ø An incision of skin around the ankle is called as ankle arthroscopy.
Ø Joints affected by arthritis are replaced by metal plates to grow together in ankle fusion
Ø Ankle replacement is used for chronic ankle pain. Cartilage is used for the replacement of damaged ankle
Ø External fixators are used for ankle pain treatment in ankle distraction arthroplasty.
