Refractive Index

Articles on Refractive Index, Peer review articles on Biomedical engineering, Open access Articles of healthcare

Refractive index is also called as index of refraction. It is a value which calculates ratio of light when light is passing from one medium into another. It is denoted by the letter ā€˜n’. It can be represented as n = c/v

Where c = velocity/speed of light of a certain wavelength in the air and

v = velocity of light in any medium.

The refractive index determines how much the path of light is bent, or refracted, when entering a material.

The refractive index depends on

  •          Nature of the medium
  •            Physical conditions
  •            Color of the wavelength of light
