Atrial Fibrillation is an irregular rapid heartbeat which
increases the risk of stroke, heart failure, and many other heart related
complications. This may lead to clotting of blood forming in the heart which
circulates to other organs which ultimately leading to blocked blood flow
commonly called as ischemia.
During this atrial fibrillation, the upper chambers of heart known as atria
beats chaotically and irregularly without any coordination with the other two
lower chambers called ventricles of the heart.
Symptoms of Atrial fibrillation:
People with Atrial fibrillation do not show any specific
symptoms and are unaware of their condition until it is discovered during a
physical examination. Some of the signs and symptoms of this atrial fibrillation
are
·
Palpitations
·
Weakness
·
Reduced Ability to exercise
·
Fatigue
·
Lightheadedness
·
Dizziness
·
Confusion
·
Shortness of breath
·
Chest pain.
Atrial Fibrillation may be occasional, persistent, long
standing persistent, permanent.
Complications of atrial fibrillation may lead to stroke, and
heart failure.
To prevent atrial fibrillation, a
healthy life style should be maintained such as avoiding smoking, reducing
stress, limiting the alcohol or caffeine, reducing the stress.
A family history of atrial
fibrillation may increase the risk of atrial fibrillation; four types of
genetic disorders are associated with atrial fibrillation.
