Atherosclerosis
is the disease in which narrowing of the arteries occurs due to the
accumulation of plaque. Arteries are the blood vessels which carry oxygen and
food supplements like nutrients from heart to all the parts of the body. Plaque
is formed due to the accumulation of fat and cholesterol
in the arteries which leads to the shortage of blood and oxygen supply in
various tissues of the body.
This is the common problem associated with aging.
Atherosclerosis may lead to some diseases like coronary artery disease, carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, kidney disease etc.
Causes for Atherosclerosis:
High cholesterol: When this substance which is naturally present in the body level increases in the blood clogs the arteries and it becomes as hard plaque that restricts the blood circulation to the heart and other organs.
Diet: Avoid foods with added sugars, candy, beverages etc., avoid foods with high salt content, and avoid foods in fat.
Age:As you age, your heart and blood vessels work harder to pump and receive blood. Your arteries may weaken and become less elastic, making them more susceptible to plaque buildup.
