Aphasia

Aphasia is a communication disorder that results from damage or injury to language parts of the brain. Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain-most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. Aphasia can be so severe as to make communication with the patient almost impossible, or it can be very mild.

Aphasia is a sign of some other condition, such as a stroke or a brain tumor. A person with aphasia may:

•           Speak in short or incomplete sentences

•           Speak in sentences that dont make sense

•           Substitute one word for another or one sound for another

•           Speak unrecognizable words

•           Not understand other peoples conversation

•           Write sentences that dont make sense
