Cluster chemistry

Journals on Cluster chemistry | Surface science Research articles | Edelweiss Chemical Science

A group of metal centers closed together which can have direct metal bonding interactions or interactions through a bridging ligand, but are not necessarily held together by these interactions is called Cluster. For Example, carbon and boron atoms form fullerene and borane groups, separately. Transition metals and main group elements form especially robust clusters. Clusters can also consist exclusively of a specific kind of molecules, such as water clusters. The main cluster types are "naked" clusters (without stabilizing ligands) and those with ligands. For transition metal clusters, carbon monoxide, halides, isocyanides, alkenes, and hydrides are typical stabilizing ligands. For main group elements, typical clusters are stabilized by hydride ligands.
